[PCMS 2024.4] Metro - Blue Hue

Metro's album Blue Hue draws inspiration from his time living near the sea. The opening and outro both have field recordings from the ocean. And while mostly drum and bass and jungle, the album includes soundscape and mid-tempo pieces as well.

The use of layering, noise and vinyl crackle, and rumbling sub bass can set a tone that feels distant or lost in a fog. New details are found on subsequent listens. But there is the other joyful side of Metro's production. Tracks often have playful vocal hits used as percussion and 16th Verse has a melody reminiscent of early happy hardcode.

All of these dimensions are tied together by a creative selection of unknown breakbeats sequenced impeccably keeping the feeling of live drumming.
